Worksthal AI Research Lab: AI Efficiency and Sustainable Data-Centre Research in India

The Worksthal AI Research Lab works on making AI more efficient in India and on sustainable infrastructure for it. Our current research studies using recycled sewage water to cool data centres, reducing fresh-water use as India's AI capacity grows.

The Worksthal AI Research Lab researches AI efficiency in India and sustainable data-centre infrastructure, currently the use of recycled sewage water for data-centre cooling.

Research Lab: frequently asked questions

What does the Worksthal AI Research Lab work on?

AI efficiency awareness in India and sustainable data-centre infrastructure, currently recycled sewage water for data-centre cooling.

Why does data-centre cooling use water?

Many data centres use evaporative or water-based cooling to remove heat from servers, which consumes large volumes of water.

How could treated sewage water be used?

Treated wastewater can replace fresh water in cooling systems after suitable treatment, reducing demand on drinking-water supplies.

What is PUE?

Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) is a data centre's total energy use divided by the energy used by its IT equipment. A PUE of 1.0 would mean every unit of energy goes to computing; anything above that is overhead such as cooling.
